Summary

Opened in 2015, Tabakalera is a space where you can enjoy contemporary art. It welcomes and inspires various cultural projects and institutions. Tabakalera's main areas of activity are cinema and audiovisual, contemporary art, creative and cultural industries, especially design and creative gastronomy, and other activities related to music, fashion, the performing arts, etc.

The Tabakalera building is located in the Egia district, 10 minutes' walk from the city centre, next to San Sebastián's train and bus stations.

It hosts events and activities from the International Film Festival, the Filmoteca Vasca (Basque Film Library), the Instituto Vasco Etxepare, Fundación Kutxa, Cine Euskadi, among many others.

It has a cinema, exhibition, event and meeting rooms; a library, coworking areas, laboratories, a café (at street level on Plaza Nestor Basterretxea) and the 4* One Shot Tabakalera House hotel.

Monday - Thursday 9:00 - 21:00; Friday 9:00 - 22:00; Saturday 10:00 - 22:00; Sunday and public holidays 10:00 - 21:00. In summer, on Fridays and Saturdays it is open until 23:00.

Prices: Entrance to the building and exhibitions, as well as most activities, is free.

Accessibility information

Transport

  • It can be reached by adapted public transport.
  • Many Dbus city bus lines connect different points of the city with areas close to the Tabakalera: lines 09, 17, 24, 37, 42, 44, 45 and B3.

  • The information is also in the Dbus mobile app that is available for iOS (Download) , Android (Download), and Windows (Download).
  • Estación del Norte train station and San Sebastián - Donostia bus station are connected to Tabakalera via the Egia passageway.
  • There is a taxi rank nearby, at the train and bus stations.

Parking spaces for PRM

  • There are 5 on-street parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility near Tabakalera.
  • European Blue Parking Badge holders can park free of charge for 24 hours at a time in on-street spaces marked as PRM.
  • They can also park in any OTA zone at tariff 2.

Access

  • Tabakalera has two entrances. One on Plaza de las Cigarreras and the other on Plaza Nestor Basterretxea.
  • The main entrance has stairs and a ramp.
  • Both entrances have automatic doors with clearance greater than 0.90m and a turning circle of 1.50m on the inside and outside.

Information point

  • There is an information point on the first floor. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 9:00 to 20:00. Friday 9:00 - 21:00. Saturday 10:00 - 21:00. Sundays and public holidays 10:00 - 20:00.
  • There is another information point on the ground floor. Opening hours: Thursday 11:00 - 14:00 and 16:00 - 19:00. Fridays - Sundays and public holidays 11:00 - 14:00 and 16:00 - 20:00.
  • Double height counter and free access area for wheelchair users.
  • On the website Tabakalera there is information about the building, its facilities and the daily programme.
  • Free guided tours of the building and the exhibitions are available upon reservation.

Adapted toilets

  • Tabakalera has adapted toilets, one per sex, on floors 0, 1, 2 and 4.
  • The door clearance is 90cm.
  • The turning radius is 1.50m.
  • The toilets have a fixed bar and a folding bar.
  • In the toilets on the ground floor and in the library (2nd floor) there are stalls adapted for small children and baby changing rooms.

Getting around

  • Traffic inside the building is accessible to wheelchair users.
  • Hard, non-slip flooring.
  • It has an accessible lift.

Elevator

  • The elevator is accessible to wheelchair users.
  • It measures 1.50m by 2.40m.
  • The door clearance is 1.20m.
  • It has an interior button panel in high relief and Braille and voice prompts.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs (guide, signal, medical alert, autism, service dogs for people with reduced mobility, etc.) are admitted free of charge, in accordance with Law 10/2007, of 29 June, on Assistance Dogs for the Care of People with Disabilities.

  • All entrances to Tabakalera and the inside of the buildings are accessible to users with reduced mobility.
  • Wheelchair service is offered on a loan basis. It can be requested at the information points, by phone or e-mail.
  • Adapted toilets.
  • Cinema screen 1 has 6 adapted seats, alternating with conventional size seats and arranged in the first row.
  • The library has furniture accessible to wheelchair users.

Visual accessibility

  • The elevator has an interior button panel in high relief and Braille, and voice prompts.
  • Tabakalera offers a range of free guided tours of the exhibitions and the building. You need to register in advance through the 'mediation' section of the website.

Please note! The building has large open spaces making orientation difficult for blind and low vision people.

Please note! The staircase on the first floor is an aerial obstacle.

Hearing accessibility

  • The mediation team regularly offers guided tours of the exhibitions with a sign language interpreter service.
  • The sign language interpretation service can be requested in advance to visit the exhibition.
  • Cinema screen 1 has a magnetic induction loop.
